Proteas beat Afghans by 59 runs to reach Super Eights
BRIDGETOWN: South Africa registered a 59-run victory over Afghanistan in the last group match of the World Twenty20 here at the Kensington Oval.

Chasing a modest target of 140, Afghanistan were all out for 80 runs in 16 overs.

Only three batsmen could get into double figures as the top order failed to resist against South Africa bowlers.

The main scorers were Mirwais Ashraf (23) and Hamid Hassan (22), both hitting one four and two sixes each.

Morne Morkel bagged four wickets for 20 runs while Charl Langeveldt.took three for 12
and Dale Steyn got two for six.

Earlier, South Africa made 139 for seven after Afghansitan captain Nowroz Mangal won the toss and put them into bat.

Jacques Kallis was the top-scorer with 34 runs from 27 balls, followed by Graeme Smith (27), JP Duminy (25) and Albie Morkel (23).

For Afghanistan, medium-pacer Hamid Hassan was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 21 runs.

South Africa dropped fast bowler Rory Kleinveldt and brought in experienced Charl Langeveldt in his place while Mirwais Ashraf replaced paceman Dawlat Ahmadzai in Afghanistan's line-up.
